Well done to Kara in 7DF, winner of the second Above and Beyond English homework project for year 7. The project involved creating a fact file about a poet. Kara chose Alfred, Lord Tennyson, who is perhaps most famous for the narrative poem The Charge of the Light Brigade, which he wrote in 1854 about the Battle of Balaclava during the Crimean War.
The English department is setting regular Above and Beyond homework projects for year 7 students. All the winning entrants receive a certificate and a prize, and there will also be an end-of-year celebration.
The students will not yet have studied the people and topics they research. These are ‘flipped learning’ projects, helping develop students’ independent learning skills. QR codes take students to websites that will help them tackle the tasks successfully.
