Ambition Institute’s funded Early Career Training Programme delivers the government’s Initial Teacher Training and Early Career Framework (ITTECF).

The programme is designed to help early career teachers develop the skills and knowledge required to be successful in their roles.

It offers a two-year support package for early career teachers to increase their confidence in teaching effectively, and helps more experienced teachers to become supportive mentors with a focus on incremental coaching.

Ambition work with primary schools, secondary schools and special schools.

The ECT programme is fully funded by the Department for Education.

Why did we choose to work with Ambition?

Instructional coaching is used highly effectively in order to ensure that mentors are able to pitch learning steps meticulously to each ECT’s stage of learning.Ofsted 2023

Instructional coaching is at the heart of the ECT programme.

It offers access to the professional-development platform Steplab, which many schools across the country use for their own internal CPD and coaching.

Ridgeway is one of the only Steplab hub schools in the north of England, and so the course completely aligns with our pedagogical development through incremental coaching.

The Ambition programme has been far and away the best ECT course that we have used for our ECTs and mentors.

Its adaptive and reflective approach ensures that our ECTs continue to thrive year on year.

In particular, the Ambition programme reflects Ridgeway’s own ethos with regard to instructional coaching, helping our ECTs to progress seamlessly to our in-school coaching programme.

Ambition’s ECT programme – Building the foundations for expertise

97% of school leaders agreed that ECTs are more confident in their role because they completed Ambition’s ECT Programme.

Ambition have developed a carefully sequenced and evidence-informed curriculum for teachers and mentors.

It focuses on how teachers learn as well as what they learn.

The mentors and professional mentors can see exactly where ECTs are up to in their study as well as having access to the studies themselves to allow reflective conversations to be part of ECT/mentor meetings.

The programme uses instructional coaching, one of the best-evidenced forms of professional development.

It focuses on teacher wellbeing and workload, aligning with our school ethos and supporting ECTs to remain in the teaching profession.

Your early career teachers will benefit from bite-sized content and tailored, observational feedback to help them to keep getting better over time.
