You may be aware from the media and my Head’s Newsletter last week that the NEU have strike action planned for next Wednesday (1 February). The strike is because of a national dispute between the union and the government.
After carrying out a risk assessment to assess the impact of reduced staff numbers, it has been decided to close the school to students for the day of the strike action.
We have a BTEC DIT exam in the morning, so students who are taking this exam should come to school for 8.28am and in school uniform as normal. They will return home once they have completed the exam. School will be open between 12pm and 12.45pm for all students who wish to get a hot lunch meal. Students who wish to take a ‘grab bag’ of food for the strike day may do so at the end of the day on Tuesday from the refectory.
Ahead of the strike day all students will be given an envelope with work inside. Students are expected to complete the work at home on Wednesday and bring it with them when they return to school on Thursday (2 February). This is to minimise the disruption to learning. The only thing they will need will be a pen.
There is a second proposed strike day on Tuesday 28 February. I will write to you in advance of this date to let you know the plan for that day, should the strike go ahead.
