A group of our outstanding netballers were at Condover Hall in Shropshire in early October, taking part in a two-day netball tournament. It was the perfect opportunity for the students to practise and hone their skills by playing against opponents from schools and netball clubs from across England and Wales, all of it overseen by qualified umpires.
Condover Hall is a residential activity centre in Shropshire that Ridgeway has been using for several years. There were also lots of outdoor adventure activities on offer over the weekend in addition to netball, such as abseiling, a high ropes course and an aerial trek.
Miss Percival says: “On Saturday, the girls were involved in a round-robin competition. They beat Freman College from Hertfordshire 8–6 in what turned out to be a fantastic end-to-end game. The girls were able to turn over the opposition’s centre passes to create the win.
“Unfortunately, the girls narrowly lost their next game to JMs Pinks Netball Club from Northants by a single goal (4–5) but, undeterred, then went on beat Welshpool High School 6–3.
“On Sunday, the girls were entered into the plate competition and played two more matches.
“Although they lost the first, against Long Eaton, I thought that the girls showed outstanding resilience. And then they ended the weekend’s netball on a real high with an absolutely superb 15–1 demolition of a good team from Deanery High School, Wigan.
“This was the best game of netball I have ever seen the girls play. They played with great fluency, with each player working really well in their particular position. A fantastic team effort!
“Overall, I am beyond proud of how the girls performed. The Deanery win really was the icing on the cake to top off a great weekend. I can’t wait to get back to Condover Hall next year – for our fourth consecutive year. It is going to be amazing!”
