Christmas Hampers

Our Christmas hampers collection competition is running between Monday 23 November and Friday 27 November. It brings together two traditions at Ridgeway — the Christmas hamper appeal, organised by members of the support staff, and our annual food-bank collection competition. This year we are delighted to be working as part of Tranmere Rovers’ Super White Christmas Appeal, which aims to provide 350 Christmas hampers for people in the local area.

Tranmere Rovers and the Tranmere Rovers Trust have already received more than £6,000 to purchase fresh vegetables, Christmas crackers, meat and other items to make this Christmas extra special.

We are encouraging students to donate non-perishable items such as tinned fruit and vegetables; pasta; tea, coffee and hot chocolate; sugar; dried milk; tinned meat and fish; instant mash; chocolate and sweets; toiletries; and Christmas crackers.

Our Student Voice representatives in each form will be helping us to collect the donations together — in a Covid-aware way, of course!

To add an element of fun, we are organising this as a competition between forms. At the same time, we are keeping at the forefront of our minds that the purpose is to bring a little bit of festive cheer to people in challenging circumstances, at the end of a difficult year for us all.

Our most recent collection in February was the biggest yet, with so many students and staff bringing in tins, bags and boxes. It’s always amazing to see people’s fantastic efforts and the unbelievable team spirit that is created when everybody pulls together.
