Strike Action on 5 July and 7 July

Information from Mr Sterry about the strike action affecting schools in England on Wednesday 5 July and Friday 7 July.

Members of the National Education Union (NEU) are planning to strike on Wednesday 5 July and Friday 7 July. As with the previous strike days this year, it is because of a dispute between the NEU and the government over issues in the profession, including staff shortages and cuts to services such as SEND and mental health, as well as being about pay.

Our plan for Wednesday 5 July is to open for all year 10 students. However, due to low numbers of staff on Friday 7 July we will not be open for students.

We have not taken this decision lightly. It has involved senior staff risk-assessing the impact of a variety of options.

As with previous strike days, a hot lunch will be served on both days between 12.30pm and 1pm. It will be available for all students, regardless of the year group they are in.

To limit the impact on students’ learning, we will send work home for both strike days on Tuesday (4 July). There will also be grab and go food bags available for students to take with them as they leave that day and at the end of the day on Thursday (6 July).

School will be open as normal for all students on Thursday 6 July and from Monday 10 July, so I look forward to seeing everyone at 8.28am as normal then.
