Two groups of year 9 geography students have been out and about in the last few weeks visiting Cwm Idwal in the Nant Ffrancon valley. This is located in the beautiful surroundings of Snowdonia National Park in North Wales.
Nant Francon is a steep-sided glacial valley. Geography in year 9 involves looking at glaciated upland areas, so this was a fantastic opportunity to see an example up close.
Mr Speers said: “We learn in class about key features such as corries, tarns, hanging valleys, corrie lips and u-shaped valleys. Now the students were able to see these features up close. It isn’t surprising that they had loads of questions.
“It is fantastic that we have this amazing location within travelling distance. Visiting here is a great way to enable to students to build their awareness of our natural landscape and how stunning it can be.
“We also had lunch in the beautiful village of Betws-y-Coed. This gave the students an opportunity to see how being in the national park helps attract tourists and showcases the natural beauty of the area.
