Year 10 Mock Interview Day is all about giving students experience of an interview situation with someone they don’t know.
We were joined in school in July by seventeen volunteers and friends of the school who were here to support our annual Year 10 Mock Interview Day, which is one of the highlights of our careers calendar.
The idea of Mock Interview Day is to give students experience of an interview situation, with the interview itself conducted by someone from outside school who the students don’t know, rather than a member of the Ridgeway staff – just like it will be when they attend a real interview for a college place, apprenticeship or job.
The year 10s then finished their school year by doing five days of work experience, giving them the opportunity to develop practical workplace skills and gain first-hand experience of what it is like in the world of work.

“We are incredibly grateful to all the volunteers who gave up a morning of their time to support our students.
“The feedback they wrote for each student made an immediate impact. We returned the completed feedback sheets to students that afternoon. The students really valued the advice and encouragement, and it gave them plenty to think about as they prepare for college, apprenticeships, employment and – in particular – interview situations.
“This experience has undoubtedly helped to build their confidence in this important area.”
