Congratulations to these year 11 students who, after many Covid-related delays and postponements, were finally able to complete their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award this week. The expedition element involved two six-hour hikes and an overnight stay at a campsite – all achieved without any guidance or direction from adults.
This particular group of students started the award way back when they were in year 9. Despite all the setbacks they have shown remarkable resilience and were at last able to complete the final element – the overnight expedition – on Monday and Tuesday.
Their journey began at Loggerheads Country Park in North Wales, and they hiked for six hours to their campsite at Fron Farm where they stayed overnight. The return journey the next day followed a similar route. All the participants were fully self-sufficient during the two days.
