Eureka! Museum Visit

Year 8 students spent an April morning at the fabulous Eureka! Science + Discovery museum in Wallasey, supporting the work they do in geography, chemistry and physics.

The main purpose of the visit was to help students explore energy use and how energy can be created using renewable methods, but the centre also boasts lots of fantastic interactive resources relating to the body, the home and nature – so the students really were spoiled for choice in terms of what to focus on!

With energy and resources a current focus in year 8 geography lessons, they made sure to check out the centre’s nature and energy exhibits, which featured lots of different activities relating to renewables.

For example, they were able to power a wind turbine using a set of fans, they charged a battery by creating tidal energy with a giant seesaw and they even helped to power a seagull chasing a cone of chips!

“Many thanks to the Eureka! Science + Discovery museum. Although this was a trip organised by the geography department, it was actually a great example of how off-site learning can support work in a range of subjects, the sciences in particular in this case.”
