Saturday 30 June saw the last of the DofE expedition training walks underway, with our intrepid cohort of adventurers braving the summer sun to ascend Moel Famau, the highest hill in the Clwydian Range, on the boundary between Denbighshire and Flintshire in Wales.
The Ridgeway team completed a seven-mile walk from Loggerheads up the back of Moel Famau, avoiding the easier tourist routes to ascend the steeper route leading up to the stone fort. Students who had not previously walked up Moel Famau were astounded by the scenery and the 360-degree panoramic views on offer. Such was the glorious weather, the two cathedrals of Liverpool city centre were visible 20 miles away.
Mr Cross said: “To their credit, students were able to show progression from previous walks and are now ready to tackle the next step: the two-day assessed expedition in Llandegla, North Wales.
This week will see our 55-strong cohort finishing last-minute preparations for their self-sufficient adventure, checking out the new school tents and completing meal planners.”
