Mental health is about our feelings, our thinking, our emotions and our moods. We all have mental health, and looking after our mental health is just as important as looking after our physical health.
At Ridgeway High School we support students with their mental health and wellbeing in a number of ways.
If a student is struggling in school, they can be referred to the wellbeing team for support in school and referral to external agencies, if needed.
Mrs Hodgson is our safeguarding officer.
She is also part of the wellbeing team.
The drop-in clinic is run by Health Services for Schools on Mondays. Jo Seggy, the allocated worker, is available at break and lunchtime in the refectory, supported by our school counsellor, Bernice. She has information on lots of topics and is able to offer 1:1 support, if required.
The following staff are trained in mental health first aid:
School offers in-house counselling support via Bernice. Gemma, Amy and Di from outside agencies are also available. Students and parents should contact the relevant pastoral team to access this support.
There is a mental health helpline available for people of all ages — including children and young people — if you need urgent support.
It is open 24/7 and is staffed by dedicated mental health professionals. The number is 0300 303 3972.
