Remembrance 2023

Many thanks to George and Akatiki in year 7, who laid wreaths at Heswall War Memorial on Friday 10 November on behalf of Ridgeway students, staff and governors.

Year 7 students were out and about walking the Wirral Way from Thurstaston to West Kirby as part of our latest Charter Day. Before setting off in the morning they were involved in a learning activity on the importance of remembrance.

Remembrance was also the theme of assemblies for all year groups in the week leading up to Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday.

Mrs Gresham, our history lead practitioner, talked to students about the meaning of remembrance, about Remembrance Sunday as a time for national reflection and about the symbolism of poppies.

She spoke in particular about how young some of those who signed up during the First World War actually were – as young as some of our students, in fact.
