Well done to a group of year 10 mathematicians who were involved in an event in early July at the University of Liverpool called Pop Maths Quiz, representing the school with distinction.
The event was organised by the Liverpool Mathematical Society and involved students competing against teams from six other schools from across the north west to solve maths-based puzzles.
Pop Maths Quiz was a team competition. The questions involved tandem answers – in other words, the answer to the previous question was needed to solve the next one. The twist was that alternating team members had to attempt the questions, encouraging teamwork and the use of strategy.
The students were helped through each task by young people who attend the University of Liverpool Maths School for sixth-formers, so the event was also an excellent opportunity for our students to learn more about post-GCSE maths.
Miss Clark said: “The results were incredibly close. Ridgeway ended up coming joint-third but then lost out on a tie break. Nevertheless, this was a really enjoyable event and the students were excellent.”
