Oliver Twist Trip

Year 7 students enjoyed an “irreverent and riotous take” on a Dickens classic, Oliver Twist, at Chester Storyhouse.

Year 7 students have been studying Oliver Twist in English lessons, and they visited the Storyhouse theatre in Chester in December to watch a theatrical version of Charles Dickens’ classic tale. There have been many film, television and theatrical adaptations of Oliver Twist over the years. The team behind this version described it as “irreverent and riotous”!

As well as enjoying some of the wonderful characters that make Dickens’ books so famous, students have been digging deeper into Dickens’ work, making inferences about his thoughts and themes from what he wrote. We have also been looking at what life was like during the Victorian era, the time when Dickens was writing.

Seeing it performed live is a wonderful chance to engage further with typical Dickensian characters and the Victorian era in which the book is set.Mrs Giannatos, Head of English
