Geography Fieldwork in Liverpool

Seventeen year 10 geography students headed to Liverpool city centre to collect fieldwork data about regeneration as part of their GCSE course. Fieldwork is a key component of the GCSE qualification and gives students experience of how geographers learn more about the real world.

The first stop was the Baltic Triangle, a creative quarter in the south of the city centre that has been regenerated within the last decade. The area is now home to lots of coffee shops and small businesses.

First, the students conducted an environmental quality survey to assess the urban environment.

They then drew field sketches and took photos to record the features of the Baltic Triangle. This will enable them to assess the impact of regeneration in Liverpool.

The students then walked through Liverpool to collect data in five other locations:

  • Chinatown
  • Ropewalks
  • Liverpool One
  • Paradise Street bus station
  • Chavasse Park
