Yesterday was our annual Ex-Year 11 Awards Evening. Many thanks to everyone who attended. It was fantastic to welcome back the students we said goodbye to last summer. This is the first awards evening that we have been able to hold since 2019, and this group of students had a huge amount of their GCSE learning time affected by Covid, so last night was particularly special. A big thank you, too, to Mr Dunning for his excellent musical introduction to the evening.
The Ex-Year 11 Awards Evening is always an enjoyable occasion. It is a chance to look back on the students’ five years with us and to celebrate their achievements and successes. It is also nice to be able to chat informally with them and to hear about the courses they are currently studying and their hopes and dreams for the future.
Lee Charles was our guest of honour. A six-time world kickboxing champion, Lee is now part of the film and stunt world and has worked on many films. He grew up in Rock Ferry and is passionate about young people from the Wirral being successful in life. His message to the students was powerful and compelling, linking perfectly with the school’s LEARN values of endurance and aspiration. If you have a dream, chase it and never give up, Lee said. You could knock on 1,000 doors and think about giving up at that point, but door 1,001 may be the one that gives you your break.
