The year 10 boys’ football team travelled to Leisure United Jeffrey Humble playing fields at Aintree in June for the final of the Merseyside Small Schools Cup against Range High School.
Mr Glover was full of praise for the team. Here’s his assessment of how the final went and of the season as a whole.
We started strongly, keeping possession of the ball and pressing well. Jayden Jones was inches away from putting us ahead a number of times in the first half, but luck wasn’t on our side and the score was still 0–0 at half-time.
Loss of possession early in the second half led to Range’s opening goal. To be fair, Range were the better team in the second half and they deservedly won the game. The final score was 3–0.
As I say, Range are a great footballing side and were worthy winners. But I am extremely proud of this Ridgeway team for how far they have come and even more so for the determination and grit they showed. They dug deep for the whole 90 minutes, fought for everything and did not give up.
It wasn’t our time this year, but we will celebrate a great season, learn from this defeat and go again next season.
