Representing Ridgeway at a conference for young people enabled Indi and Harvey to demonstrate a strong sense of social responsibility.

Two year 11 students – Indi and Harvey – joined young people from other local schools at an event at Wallasey Town Hall in October, organised as part of the We Are Wirral Children’s Services campaign. The aim of the event was to hear directly from young people about their ideas for the local area to develop the campaign’s We create opportunities for all children and young people priority.

Indi and Harvey had the opportunity to:

  • talk about some of their favourite things about the Wirral and also things that they would like to see improved
  • take part in training on how to use the emergency alert boxes around the Wirral
  • hear about career opportunities with Wirral Council participate in a workshop about Zillo – “a website for young people by young people”

Mrs Moran said:

“I am delighted that Indi and Harvey agreed to represent Ridgeway at this event. Their participation and commitment demonstrate leadership qualities and a strong sense of social responsibility, two key elements of our LEARN ethos.

“They acquitted themselves brilliantly all day, showing confidence when discussing issues with students from other Wirral schools and with councillors, and even challenging some of the councillors’ misconceptions.”

Harvey said:

“I was really pleased to be invited to take part in the event at Wallasey Town Hall and represent Ridgeway High School.

“When we arrived we were seated with some of the senior members of Wirral Council and we got to know them better as the day went on. It was interesting to find out about their roles and the journey they had taken to get to where they were. I shared my dream of becoming a firefighter and gained some valuable advice from the people around me.

“I think my favourite part of the day was getting a guided tour of the chambers. The town hall is a place that I haven’t been to in a long time so it was nice to go back and be shown around.”
