At Ridgeway High School we like to give students regular opportunities to meet both employers and employees from the world of work. This supports Gatsby Benchmark 5.
One way we do this is through our Encounters with Employees Week. We host a range of employers and employees from a variety of sectors here at school and students chose which session they would like to attend.
At the heart of our school ethos is LEARN – Leadership, Endurance, Aspiration, Respect and Nurture. We raise aspirations by giving students the opportunity to engage with real employers and employees who are able to give first-hand accounts of their own experiences.
We like students to hear from people currently in the world of work, helping them to gain a greater understanding and awareness of potential employment and career journeys. This is a valuable opportunity for students to gain information about different sectors and to understand how they might enter different professions.
We ask employers and employees to cover:
Encounters with Employees Week is just one way we engage with employers and employees. We also offer students in year 10 a week of work experience, during which they experience what it is like to work in a particular sector for five days.
We are always keen to create more learning opportunities for students. If you are interested in supporting our award-winning careers programme, please get in touch with Miss R Cotter, our careers leader.
