Leadership is the ‘L’ of LEARN for Success, the five attributes and values that are at the heart of our character-education programme, helping to build self-esteem and strengthen students’ sense of self and responsibility to others.
Leadership at Ridgeway involves:
Becoming a Student Voice representative is an example of a leadership role, representing the views of fellow students and helping make decisions about how the school operates.
Each form has recently elected a Student Voice representative and deputy representative [see opposite]. Their role is an important one — to represent their peers. Each student who put their name forward was invited to set out to fellow form members reasons why they would be a good representative. The form then cast their votes in an election.
As well as allowing students to demonstrate leadership qualities and helping the school to choose our new Student Voice cohort, this process was also a great lesson in democracy and the part that elections play in a free society.
